Social networking platform Bluesky made an appearance over at Austin, Texas, for the South by Southwest (SXSW) 2025 where it announced the latest update for the app.
The latest update brings a list of new features to enjoy on the platform, including the arrival of more video content to upload for users, as well as improvements for its direct messages.
In this latest update, Bluesky claimed that it wants to make the internet, including its platform, “less toxic,” particularly with its latest DM management features that can help prevent users from spamming an inbox.
Bluesky Shares Latest Update After CEO’s SXSW 2025 Talk
Bluesky recently shared a post via its official page which details the latest app update via version 1.99.
First, there is the extended maximum video duration upload which adds on the previous limit of one minute. Now, users get a chance to post up to three-minute-long videos to the platform.
Next, Bluesky has added a couple of DM management features and tools that make privacy its top priority, particularly as anyone can message any user on the platform.
With the new update, messages from people they do not follow will appear in the requests section where they may choose to accept or reject the messages.

‘Less Toxic’ Internet via Bluesky’s Recent Update
According to Bluesky, this latest update focuses on making the internet “less toxic,” and it focuses on giving people more control over their experiences on the platform.
Another feature that the company shared is the ability to easily mute accounts, and this will no longer ask users to go to a certain profile to do it.

The rise of Bluesky is nothing short of inspirational as it was able to make a name for itself. Towards the end of last year, Bluesky grew exponentially with more than 24 million users tallied in early December, with its numbers averaging a whopping one million user signups per day.
Over the past months, Bluesky has added a lot of nifty features for its users to enjoy, including the arrival of direct messages for communication needs, allowing multimedia posts like video and more. Users may also enjoy a direct music and video in-app player that will allow them to easily access these despite users only sharing links.
What’s next for Bluesky is to add a subscription service called the ‘Bluesky+’ program that will deliver premium features to users soon, with the company currently working on this experience.
