February 5, 2025
After launching on the web in December, Deep Research is now rolling out to the Gemini app for Android. This feature is designed to handle complex research questions by searching the web and generating structured reports.
What is Deep Research?
Deep Research is Gemini’s first agentic feature that allows users to conduct in-depth research on a given topic. Instead of providing a single response, Gemini breaks down a research query into multiple steps.
How It Works
How It Works on Mobile
The Android version of Deep Research has a similar user interface (UI) to the web version, offering an intuitive experience. However, some limitations exist:

- Exporting to Google Docs is available after the research completes successfully.
- File uploads and Gemini Live are not supported for now.
- Users can leave the app while research is running—a notification will alert them when it’s done.
Usage Limits
Google has placed restrictions on daily research requests and simultaneous research sessions:
- If a user approaches their daily limit, Gemini will display a warning.
Availability and Future Plans
- Android: Now rolling out widely as of Tuesday.
- iOS: Not available yet, but expected in the future.
- Subscription Requirement: To access this feature, you must have a Gemini Advanced subscription.
This rollout follows the 2.0 Flash update, which also expanded to mobile. Google had previously confirmed Deep Research’s Android launch alongside Talk Live, multi-extension prompts, and a redesigned Circle to Search feature.
