Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S21 series will no longer receive monthly security updates. While the phones are still supported, they are aging. If you own a Galaxy S21, it may be time to consider an upgrade.

Samsung Reduces Update Frequency for Galaxy S21 Series: Time to Upgrade?

As reported by Phonearena, Samsung recently updated its Security Updates Work Scope page. The Galaxy S21 series is no longer on the list for monthly updates. Instead, the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra will now get updates only four times a year. This means fewer security patches and a higher risk of vulnerabilities over time.

Galaxy S21 FE Still Gets Monthly Updates—For Now

The Galaxy S21 FE is an exception. It will continue to receive monthly updates, but only for a little longer. By early next year, it will also switch to a less frequent update schedule.

Final Major Android Update for Galaxy S21

Samsung promised four years of major OS updates and five years of security updates for the S21 series. The Android 15 update is expected in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, this will be the last major OS update for these models.

The Galaxy S21 FE will get one more upgrade. It should receive Android 16 when Google releases it later this year. However, the update may not arrive until 2025. Still, this gives the S21 FE an extra year of relevance.

Should You Upgrade?

If you have a newer phone, upgrading may not feel urgent. But if you’re still using a Galaxy S21, now is a good time to switch. With fewer updates and no future Android versions, your device will become outdated.

Newer Samsung flagships, like the Galaxy S24, offer better performance, battery life, and camera quality. If you want the latest features and security, an upgrade is worth considering.

Final Thoughts

The Galaxy S21 series has had a solid run. However, its update cycle is ending. If you want better security and newer features, upgrading now is a smart move.
