The Game Awards 2024 was an exciting event full of surprises for gamers everywhere. Some of the year’s best games were recognized with well-deserved awards, while the stage lit up with announcements about brand-new titles. Fans were treated to everything from long-awaited sequels to completely new games in some of the most beloved series. It was a night that had something for everyone, whether you’re into action-packed adventures, immersive RPGs, or creative indie titles. Nowadays, while it’s interesting to know which game is getting the top prize, most of the fans watch the event for the trailers and for possible reveals.
5 Great Reveals at The Game Awards 2024
The event wasn’t just about celebrating the past year in gaming; it gave us a glimpse of what’s coming next. Some announcements had fans cheering, while others brought surprises that no one saw coming. Whether you’ve been following gaming news closely or just enjoy seeing what’s new, this year’s Game Awards didn’t disappoint.
Here’s a closer look at five big announcements from the show that had gamers talking and social media buzzing. From exciting trailers to jaw-dropping reveals, these moments truly stole the spotlight.
1 – Onimusha Way of Sword
Capcom delivered a surprising announcement at The Game Awards 2024, and it has me genuinely thrilled. After more than two decades, the legendary Onimusha franchise is making a comeback with a brand-new title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. As someone who played the third game over a decade ago, I can’t wait to dive back into this samurai action-adventure series and see how it has evolved.
The Onimusha series never quite got the recognition it deserved, but this reboot could finally bring the spotlight back to its unique blend of fast-paced combat and gripping storytelling. With next-gen graphics, it promises to deliver a visually stunning experience while staying true to its roots. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to launch in 2026, giving both long-time fans and newcomers plenty to look forward to.
Onimusha certainly was a nice surprise and brought some warmth to our hearts. After all, Capcom seems to be looking at some of its older franchises. What comes next? Dino Crisis? Breath of Fire? We can dream.
2 – Elden Ring Nightreign
FromSoftware is not ready to leave Elden Ring’s world for a new IP or a new Dark Souls. We can understand, after all, the game has been loved worldwide and was the 2023 game of the year. With a successful DLC competing at this year’s TGA, it’s natural to see more coming out of this world. This time, we have to so-called Elden Ring’s multiplayer as a standalone.
At this year’s TGA, fans were treated to something special: the official teaser for its sequel, Elden Ring: Nightreign. After the original’s explosive success and its highly praised DLC, FromSoftware is ready to take us on another epic journey.
Elden Ring: Nightreign promises to expand the dark fantasy world even further. It brings a fresh sense of scale and depth to the franchise. The gameplay trailer revealed exciting new features, including enhanced mechanics and improved co-op experience to make adventuring with friends even better. With the teaser leaving fans buzzing, it’s clear that Nightreign aims to build on everything that made the original a masterpiece.

3 – The Witcher 4
One of the most exciting moments of The Game Awards 2024 came from CD Projekt Red, as they officially announced a new chapter in the Witcher franchise. After years of speculation, fans were thrilled to learn that The Witcher 4 is in the works. It also marks the beginning of a new saga. This time, the story takes a bold turn by placing Ciri in the spotlight as the protagonist, shifting away from the beloved Geralt of Rivia.

The trailer delivers an action-packed preview filled with intense combat and a tone perfectly matched to the gritty, magical world of the Witcher series. While specific details about the gameplay are still under wraps, the visuals and atmosphere have already set the stage for what promises to be an epic continuation of the franchise. One interesting detail is that the trailer reveals the game is indeed being developed on a custom Unreal Engine 5. It is also being rendered on an unrevealed RTX GPU, probably the RTX 5090.
Although the release date hasn’t been revealed yet, the buzz surrounding The Witcher 4 is already massive. With Ciri at the helm, this next installment will redefine the series and bring a fresh perspective to the dark fantasy universe fans love.
4 – Shadow of Colossus’ Creator (Fumito Ueda) New Project
Perhaps one of the most intriguing trailers of the night came from the mind of Fumito Ueda. The legendary developer is well-known for its unique style that delivered great experiences like Ico, Shadow of Colossus, and the Last Guardian. Now, he is working on a new game. Unfortunately, it’s hard to extract information just by looking at this trailer that shows some sort of stone-made big robot flying away from the threat.
Hopefully, Ueda’s new game will come soon and won’t take more than 10 years like The Last Guardian. The creator is well known for its unique style that may not please all gamers around. However, it has some sort of cult following for gamers who loved Shadow of Colossus from its days of PS2.
5 – Intergalactic
Okay, this is one is a new IP. But the most exciting part is that it comes from the legendary PlayStation Studio Naughty Dog. The developers who brought us masterpieces like The Last of Us and Uncharted are now working on a new Sci-Fi Retro-Futuristic sort of game called Intergalactic. The trailer gives us a quick glimpse of this retro-futuristic fantasy game. There are some details here and there, but most of the game’s plot is hidden. At the end of the trailer, we can see the teaser of the main character fighting against a big robot using some hybrid between a buster sword and a lightsaber.
Some fans got upset with the game’s aesthetics and the main character’s appearance. However, I feel that it’s too soon to take conclusions from this title. I can give my two cents of confidence to Naughty Dog considering their past work. Also, considering how cryptic PlayStation has been with its upcoming releases, it’s nice to finally see something on the horizon.
Apart from Elden Ring Nightreign, which is expected soon, these games are still away from a release. We expect to hear more from them throughout 2025.
