Samsung Auto DeX to Challenge Android Auto and CarPlay

Samsung is preparing to introduce a new in-car software platform called Auto DeX. This innovative system aims to transform the digital driving experience. It will offer a fresh alternative to popular platforms like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay by providing a user interface designed specifically for cars.

Samsung Auto DeX: A New Alternative to Android Auto

Auto DeX is being developed with wide compatibility in mind. Early reports reveal it supports more than 8,500 vehicle models across over 100 car brands. That means many drivers could soon use Samsung’s system without needing a specific car model.

But what makes Auto DeX even more impressive is its ability to work directly on smartphones. Even if your car doesn’t support the system, the feature can still run on your phone screen. This could be especially useful for users who lost access to Android Auto when Google discontinued the phone screen version of the app.

Leaked screenshots give us a glimpse of what Auto DeX will look like. The layout is clean and user-friendly. In the center of the screen, you’ll find a navigation app. On the upper-right corner, there’s a playlist shortcut, while music controls sit just below.

To the left, a vertical sidebar displays the current time, apps, and a shortcut to the full app menu. Visible apps include Bixby, a maps app, a music app, and Samsung’s phone application. At the bottom, Samsung’s familiar three-button navigation bar appears, confirming that the software is designed to function both on car displays and mobile screens.

Auto DeX: Samsung’s New In-Car Platform That Works Without a Car

Samsung has experimented with similar platforms before. In China, it previously launched a service called Samsung Auto. However, Auto DeX is clearly being built for a broader, global audience.

It’s not yet official when Auto DeX will officially launch or which regions will get it first. We also don’t know how well it will support third-party apps. But rumors suggest it could be unveiled alongside the upcoming One UI 8 update and Samsung’s latest foldable smartphones.

If these rumors are true, we might see Auto DeX debut very soon. From what we know so far, the platform is already at an advanced stage of development.
