Apple’s Next macOS Leak: ‘Tahoe’ Is the Name
The latest Power On newsletter from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals the latest leak about Apple’s operating system changes, particularly for the Mac which is known for having unique names.
This year, the macOS is not only switching from being called the macOS 16 to macOS 26 based on the rumors, but it will also reportedly be named after California’s Lake Tahoe.

Apple’s Operating Systems and WWDC 2025
Massive rumors regarding what is coming next from Apple have already been circulating the web, particularly as this year’s lineup of operating systems is getting a UI overhaul from the company. It was revealed that Apple will now take the user interface and design from the visionOS and pass it to its regular OS releases, the iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and more.
It was revealed by reports that the decision from Apple to use the visionOS interface for the design centers on making the experience simpler and more user-friendly, but most importantly, a faster one. This was previously touted for the iOS 19 operating system that is set to be an overhaul of the iPhone’s system, but recent reports claimed that it is also coming to other devices and their respective systems.
While the visionOS UI is the most important change of the upcoming releases that the world will reportedly see via WWDC 2025, a separate rumor also revealed that Apple is changing the way it names the operating systems starting this year.
Instead of following the release versions, the company will now reportedly name it after the following year. For 2025, all operating systems will see ’26’ alongside it.
