Meta Threads: Video Ads Are Now Under Testing on Feeds—Will They Cause Disruptions?

It has almost been two years since Threads was launched by Meta, and now, the company is moving towards monetizing the social media experience by inserting video advertisements to the feed.

This follows the recent move by Meta and Instagram which involved testing ads on Threads earlier this year.

During this testing period, A small number of video ads from several partners will appear on the platform.

Meta Threads Is Now Testing Video Ads

Speaking at the IAB NewFronts 2025 event, Meta announced the latest changes done on Threads, particularly the integration of ads into the platform.

However, the latest change is that it now allows video advertisements to play on users’ feeds.

Meta revealed that it is now giving businesses more chances in expanding their brands or services via Threads for better engagement.

In this testing period, Meta is only offering the service to a small number of advertisers. They are allowed to post either 1:1 or 16:9 video ads.

Similar to how it appears on Facebook and Instagram, Threads’ new video ads will be squeezed in between regular posts. Users will see a “Sponsored” label under the username of the brand’s account, and it will be automatically played when a user passes by it on the feed.

The Meta Threads Experience

Meta has grown Threads to a whopping 275 million users, which is a significant milestone for the company towards the end of last year’s operations.

Instagram and its CEO have been fairly active in announcing the developments for Threads and the latest features made available to the platform. One of the biggest updates they delivered was the ability to schedule posts for up to 75 days ahead on the platform, alongside the ability to edit reposted content, and more.

Slowly, Threads is making its name known to the world as a microblogging platform which replicates the many popular experiences from its rivals but also delivers special features that is also enjoyed on Instagram.

Recently, Meta has also given Threads users better content management tools and experiences like analytics, the ability to create multiple drafts, and the “ThreadsDeck.”
