Gemini Gets Its Own Widget Just in Time for Google I/O 2025

We’re just hours away from flipping the calendar to May, and that means Google I/O 2025 is almost here. This year’s event is shaping up to be a bit different. While AI is clearly center stage for Google these days, Android still has its moment — getting its own dedicated pre-I/O event. But Google’s not waiting until the big keynote to make moves. It’s already rolling out something pretty useful for Gemini.
A Handy New Gemini Widget Lands on Android
If you love using widgets to access your favorite features with a single tap, you’re going to like this. Android widgets have long been one of the most convenient ways to stay productive, and now Gemini is joining the party with a brand-new home screen widget.
Spotted by 9to5Google, the Gemini widget is arriving with version 1.0.751104895 of the app. It didn’t show up for us right away in the Play Store, but no worries — you can always grab the app bundle and sideload it if you’re impatient (we definitely were).
What the Gemini Widget Can Do
Once installed, you’ll see just one widget option — but it’s a flexible one. You can resize it however you like. No matter the shape, you’ll get a search bar with voice input for starting conversations, plus shortcuts to upload a file, photo, or even snap a new pic on the spot.
There’s also a direct link to Gemini Live, which is perfect if you want to dive right into a live interaction. Shrink the widget down enough, and some of those upload options will disappear, leaving you with just the basics. At its tiniest size, you’ll see only the Gemini icon. Simple, clean, and still useful.

Coming Soon to Everyone — Even iOS
Google told 9to5Google that the widget should be rolling out to all Android users over the next week. And yes, Gemini widgets are also on the way for iOS, so iPhone users won’t be left out for long.
With Google I/O just around the corner, this feels like a small preview of the bigger AI upgrades still to come. If you’re into Gemini, this widget might be your new favorite home screen shortcut.
