Google to Shut Down Popular App and Integrate it Into Google Play Store

Google has the habit of killing some of its apps or services when it judges that it is no longer necessary. Sometimes, the company does this relatively quickly, and not even popular apps and services are saved from this. Remember the Google Allo and Duo failure? Google insisted just a little bit before killing these two apps completely. These were big flops, but the company also killed popular apps like Chromecast, Google Podcast, and more. We can also remember the case of Google+, the company’s response to social media platforms after Orkut. It was considered a big failure for Google, but there was a community of users; none of this saved the platform from its fate. Now, it seems that Google is aiming to kill Play Games.

Google Play Games to Face Its Demise Soon

According to a new report from fame APK Teardown Specialist, Assemble Debug, Google Play Games might join the list of killed Google Apps soon. This isn’t confirmed by Google yet. However, upon inspection, he found evidence that Google Play Store could soon integrate the services of Play Games.

The developer states that one of the Google Play Games features that has been added to the Google Play Store is the ability to track achievements. Many Android users on Reddit previously claimed to use the  Play Games specifically for this feature. This should be the main reason for using Google Play Games today. In addition to this, the search giant has plans to introduce other Google Play Games features. This includes the ability to manage the Gamer Profile and follow other games. On the contrary, no major features have been added to Google Play Games in a long time. This evidence combined can say that the future isn’t good for the app.

Windows Version Should Stay Alive

Meanwhile, Play Games for PC should stay alive for the time being. The Play Games for Windows was launched in 2022 and is still in beta. Microsoft killed Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). As a result, Play Games for Windows is the only of the few reliable ways to play Android games on PC, even without an Android phone. The Play Games Android app, debuted way back in 2013 with features like “instant play” and some casual games.

There is still no word from Google on when this will happen. However, we can easily say that this shouldn’t happen before most of its features are implemented on the Google Play Store.
