Over the year, there have been significant features that Microsoft introduced to its Copilot+ AI PCs that have been met with controversies because of their potential privacy issues, but they are now making a return.
New features are currently rolling out to the company’s AI PCs as of writing, particularly the AI Recall and the AI-powered Windows Search.
The current question now is if these features still have a problem or any privacy issue that users have to worry about, especially as there is still a massive grey area into the company’s AI use and practices.
Microsoft Recall, AI Windows Search Returns Yet Again
A new blog post from Microsoft details the latest features that are coming to Windows, particularly to Copilot+ AI PCs. In particular, the post elaborates on the return of AI Recall now rolling out to the aforementioned devices.
Recall has seen almost 10 months of work from Microsoft, with the feature being released and then pulled out due to the privacy and security issues that were raised.
For this release, Windows Experiences Corporate Vice President Navjot Virk said that Recall is back better than ever, and it still brings what it set out to deliver, which is a better search experience for the PC.
Users tend to get overwhelmed by information, says Microsoft, and Recall is the tool to help avoid further confusion as the AI will help in simplifying their search.
Alongside this, Copilot+ PCs will also get the improved Windows Search for a more efficient access to files and other experiences on the computer.

Do Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC Features Still Have Problems?
According to Microsoft, the latest rollout of Recall focused on fixing the issues and problems that users had over the past months, with Copilot+ PC owners now given the option to remove it by opting out.
That being said, this opt out feature would only center on making Recall an “optional component,” which will “keep temporary copies of non-executable binaries of the feature” that will be removed over time.
Microsoft Copilot+ PCs: Plagued by AI Issues
AI-centered PCs were the next-in-line for development for many tech companies, including Microsoft. Apart from its built-in AI experiences, it also introduced new features like the AI Recall, which was met with significant controversy, which led the company to pull it out. It eventually launched once again under a test in November.
The Recall feature is based on the idea to help users “recall” their latest and recent actions on the computer, and it includes all the processes they did like what they browsed on the web, as well as on several apps. However, many found a problem with this because it screenshots everything done on the computer, and it was seen as a security issue, leading it to be recalled by Microsoft.
Microsoft had removed Recall and brought it back again on several occasions last year because of the massive backlash it faced from the public, but the company reassured them time and time again that it is safe and secure.
After the testing phase and offering the capabilities for users to opt out of it, the feature is making its grand return alongside many new Windows features centering on AI upgrades.
