Huawei is dominating China’s foldable smartphone market. During the first quarter of 2025, Huawei shipped 2.842 million foldable phones. That translated to an enormous 76.6% market share for Huawei, according to IDC.

Huawei Dominates China’s Foldable Phone Market in Early 2025

This is a big jump from the last quarter of 2024, when Huawei had a 48.6% share with 2.506 million units shipped. Even more impressive, this is a 53.1% increase compared to the same time last year. This rise also follows a small drop in Q4 2024, where Huawei saw a 9.5% year-on-year decrease. The quick rebound shows how strong Huawei’s strategy is.

As Huawei gains steam, others lose steam. Honor, for example, felt the decline in its market share tough. It dropped from 20.6% in Q4 2024 to as low as 9.1% in Q1 2025. Oppo, though, was slightly better off. Its share increased from 5.3% to 7.1%. Oppo’s Find N5 foldable launched in February helped it, though maybe its full impact won’t be felt until the second quarter.

There are others that struggled harder. Xiaomi fell precipitously from 7.4% to a mere 2.6%. Vivo, once a leading brand, did not even appear in the chart this time around. Part of the reason for such a fall is the absence of new foldables. Xiaomi and vivo have not launched new models since early or mid-2024.

Huawei, however, has been busy. It launched several foldables last year, such as the world’s first tri-foldable phone, the Mate XT Ultimate. It also launched the Mate X6, a book-style foldable, and two flip phones: the Pocket 2 and nova Flip. For 2025, Huawei started the year with the Pura X, an innovative and creative design.

Outside the foldable market, Huawei is also doing well. Vivo leads the overall smartphone market in China, but Huawei is closing in. It’s now right behind Apple, showing strong growth in both regular and foldable smartphones.

Huawei’s focus on innovation and steady product launches are paying off. If this trend continues, it could soon lead not just the foldable market, but the entire smartphone scene in China.
