Amazon Launches Alexa+ But Its Promised Features Are Largely Missing—Same With Apple Intelligence?

The launch of Alexa+ is one of the most awaited releases from Amazon as the company promised massive new features that would largely upgrade the experience, but now that it is here, many feel that it’s still lacking.

Many of the promised features of Amazon’s generative AI upgrade for Alexa are not yet available, and it seems that these will be delayed.

Amazon Launches Alexa+ Without Its Promised Features

Last month, Amazon introduced a more powerful and helpful version of Alexa to the world known as Alexa+, and recently, the eCommerce company launched the much-awaited generative AI upgrade of the assistant. However, according to a report by The Washington Post, this was an underwhelming release from Amazon as Alexa+ is missing out on the advanced features it promised.

Some of the iconic features that Amazon revealed in the past months are unavailable, including the capability to ask Alexa+ to order food for you via Grubhub or other platforms.

Additionally, the promised feature of connecting to Ring doorbells and identifying family members, as well as reminding them to accomplish chores is also missing.

That being said, Amazon’s early access page for Alexa+ claimed that the early version of the assistant may now help book Uber rides, draft emails, and identify objects at home.

Alexa+ Missing Features: There Is a Delay

While there are already several advancements that Alexa+ brings in its current iteration, it is still missing out on the largely promised ones and is frustrating to some users, considering that it requires a $20 per month subscription.

As revealed by the Post, Amazon’s internal documents revealed that there is a massive delay to Alexa+’s other features, with other tools to be unavailable for two months or more.

Is Alexa+ Facing the Same Fate as Apple Intelligence?

When Apple introduced Apple Intelligence back in WWDC 2024, the company promised massive features are expected to arrive and deliver a new experience for all. The company shared ads and other showcases for its generative AI technology and later launched them in October for its initial version.

However, the public felt that this version of Apple Intelligence was lacking, and it missed out on the many promised features that the company mentioned during their event which, led to many being frustrated or questioning the company.

Since then, Apple has announced that there will be a gradual rollout for new Apple Intelligence features, but some of these are facing delays, including the famed upgrade known as the “modernized Siri.” While Apple already confirmed that these features are facing delays, they did not mention the reason behind its setbacks.

Now, Alexa+ is starting to show signs that it is also suffering the same fate that Apple Intelligence met when it first rolled out, as Amazon was not able to fulfill its promised features on its release.

It has not been revealed how long users have to wait for these promised features.
