The renowned Japanese anime and manga series, “Initial D,” is the main inspiration in the game, and it offers an open-world game with over 250 kilometers worth of roads available for players to explore and test their skills on. “JDM: Japanese Drift Master” is set in the fictional Japanese prefecture of Guntama, featuring a mix of city and mountain roads to drift on, featuring a story mode with manga-style cutscenes in its campaign.

The JDM Culture in Pop Culture and the Real World

The world has greatly appreciated what Japan has to offer in different industries, but one of the most lasting impacts the East Asian country has is in the automotive industries with the so-called ‘JDM’ or Japanese Domestic Market cars. The pop culture world has greatly revered JDMs, with Rockstar Games highlighting a massive showcase of Japanese cars at “GTA Online’s” Los Santos Tuners event.

Despite its fame in both the real world and pop culture, the massive shift towards clean energy solutions has already put an expiration date on the beloved ICE-powered industry, which also means the doom of JDMs. One of the most iconic JDM cars in the world for over 40 years already is rumored to be getting a new motor that will essentially transform the Mazda MX-5, its successor of the Miata, as an electric vehicle.

That being said, there are still many iconic cars from Japan that are available to continue their lineage of the ICE’s iconic roar, with the likes of the Toyota Supra, Honda Civic, Subaru WRX, Nissan GT-R, and more. However, as cars continue to evolve as their electric vehicle counterparts, JDM fans may turn their attention to the upcoming “JDM: Japanese Drift Master’s” release this March, capturing the nostalgic feel of “Initial D” for all to enjoy.
