The settlement from Razer is now complete, and the Zephyr mask’s refunds are now in the process of being sent to their respective owners after their purchase of this “fake” smart mask from the renowned multinational tech company. One of the biggest controversies in the health tech industry was the Razer Zephyr smart mask which claimed to be an N95 respirator which the FTC disputed last year and led to a massive settlement.
Because of this landmark win against Razer, the US Federal Trade Commission received over $1 million in the settlement which is now being refunded to the people who got scammed by its false promises.
Razer Zephyr Refunds Are Coming From the FTC
The FTC announced that it is now processing the refunds regarding their massive case against Razer, particularly with their Zephyr smart masks which deceived the public that it can protect them against viruses and particles because of its “N95-Grade” filters. Last year saw the FTC serving Razer with a lawsuit on their fraudulent claims regarding the Zephyr wearable to fight against COVID-19.
Razer settled the case and was made to pay $1,071,254.33 which will be used to refund the money back to defrauded customers, and the company was also fined against their actions for $100,000.
According to the FTC, affected customers who signed up for these refunds may receive their sum via check and PayPal payments, with as much as 6,764 affected customers to be given full refunds said the Commission.

‘Fake’ Smart Masks From Razer Pay the Price
Razer claimed massive things about their Zephyr smart masks which were not true, especially as it promised that it is similar to wearing an N95 respirator which filters as much as 95 percent of air and water particles. The company sold the Zephyr for $100 apiece from late 2021 to early 2022, all while claiming that it can help against the COVID-19 virus and other viruses.
Razer Zephyr Smart Mask’s Rise and Fall
The pandemic changed a lot for users as everyone was made to stay at home, avoid crowded places at all times, regularly check on flu-like symptoms, and wear masks in public places to avoid getting infected. However, companies like Razer released health tech wearables to transform how one wears masks, with their development initially known as ‘Project Hazel.’
It was first introduced by Razer in 2021 and was made available to the public in the same year, now called the Zephyr, which promises that it uses N95 filters to block the virus while also featuring a transparent mouth area and RGB lights. While it came a year after the official start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it still garnered significant fame, and Razer followed that up by expanding on the Zephyr Pro’s voice amplification feature.
Two years after the last release of a new Zephyr Pro variant, the FTC came poking around the smart mask where it filed a lawsuit against the company and asked for a refund of these fraudulent wearables. Almost a year since the FTC’s fight against Razer, it is now ready to refund the people the money they spent on this bogus smart mask, to be available to customers via check or PayPal payments.
