MediaTek started a new chapter in its chip design with the Dimensity 9300, which used all big CPU cores. At first, it was seen with doubts, due to the lack of efficiency cores. However, the chipset proved to keep things balanced and was successful. Then came the Dimensity 9400, which also had an all-big core design with the same 1+3+4 setup. With the recently-released Dimensity 8400, MediaTek brought this concept of performance-first to the mid-range market. Now, tipster Digital Chat Station has shared details about the Dimensity 9500’s CPU design.
MediaTek Dimensity 9500 To Bet on a 2 + 6 Performance Cores Architecture
According to the report, MediaTek will shift to a 2+6 CPU layout. It will come with 2x Cortex-X930 “Travis” cores for top performance and 6x Cortex-A730 “Gelas” cores for efficient multitasking. This 2+6 layout is also used by Qualcomm in its Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

The Dimensity 9500 is set to impress with its prime CPU cores. As per the report, they will reach a peak clock speed of up to 4GHz. Built on TSMC’s N3P process (3nm), it promises better power efficiency and will use ARM’s Scalable Matrix Extension (SME) for enhanced multi-thread performance. Since the Dimensity 9400 was announced in October, we can expect the Dimensity 9500 to launch in the coming months.
With Qualcomm moving on to its own core architecture, MediaTek will now be one of the main stages for new ARM advancements. We expect ARM to present new upgrades for its cores at the half of 2025, and these upgrades will certainly be present on MediaTek’s next flagship SoC. Meanwhile, we will see more of the company’s new performance philosophy on the smartphones launching in the next months. In January, the Redmi Turbo 4 will debut Dimensity 8400-Ultra which has eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores for performance. We are really interested in seeing how the company kept performance and energy efficiency in balance.
In any case, with the jump to 3nm architecture, and the batteries breaking the 6,000 mAh and 7,000 mAh threshold, we are not surprised to see the Dimensity 9500 safe to explore new territories.
