HMD Global has steadily built a reputation for delivering reliable smartphones with solid performance, though its track record for software updates has been less consistent. Despite some delays, the company has made strides in fulfilling its commitments. The HMD Pulse Pro is a prime example, as it is slated to receive two major software updates alongside three years of security patches.

HMD Begins Android 15 Rollout with Promises of Improved Features and Security

HMD recently launched its Android 15 rollout, starting with the Pulse Pro. Reports indicate that several users have already received the over-the-air (OTA) update. This update, weighing approximately 3.12GB, not only upgrades the operating system but also includes the December 2024 security patch. Android 15 promises significant enhancements in performance, privacy, and security, along with improved adaptive battery functionality and advanced notification controls.

The Android 15 OTA update appears to be a global release, though it is being deployed in stages. This means that some users may need to wait a bit longer before it reaches their devices. While HMD is not known for providing detailed update schedules, the current rollout aligns with its commitment to delivering timely software improvements to its users.

In addition to the Pulse Pro, several other HMD devices are confirmed to be eligible for the Android 15 update. These include:

  • Nokia G42 5G
  • Nokia G60 5G
  • Nokia XR21 5G
  • Nokia X30 5G
  • HMD Pulse series
  • HMD Crest series
  • HMD Fusion
  • HMD Skyline
  • HMD XR21 5G
  • HMD T21

While these devices are on track to receive the update, the timeline for Android 15 availability remains uncertain. We expect that the rollout for many of these models may extend into late 2024 or early 2025.

HMD’s efforts to deliver Android 15 reflect a broader commitment to enhancing the user experience by integrating advanced features and bolstering device security. However, the company’s spotty communication about update schedules continues to be an area for improvement. As users await the latest updates for their devices, the hope is that HMD will maintain its focus on providing reliable and timely software support across its diverse product lineup.
