A new report from Android Authority claims that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will support seamless updates. The report found leaked files from the Galaxy S25 Ultra that confirm this feature. The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ are also expected to have seamless updates.

What Are Seamless Updates?

Seamless updates let your phone install software updates in the background while you keep using it. The update gets applied to a secondary system partition, so when you restart your phone, it quickly switches to the updated version. This reduces downtime and makes the update process smoother and safer.

Seamless updates on Android use two partitions, one active and one inactive, to make system updates faster and safer. The update installs on the inactive partition in the background while you keep using your phone. Once the installation is complete, a quick reboot switches the phone to the updated partition, minimizing downtime. This process also includes a fail-safe, allowing the device to revert to the previous version if something goes wrong. While it improves reliability and reduces waiting time, it requires more storage due to the dual-partition system. Google now requires seamless updates for devices launched with Android 13 or later.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Confirmed With Seamless Update and Snapdragon 8 Elite

The source not only confirmed seamless update support for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra but also revealed that the device, identified as model SM-S938, will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, the presence of this chipset is hardly a surprise at this point. Anyway, it may relieve consumers who don’t appreciate the Exynos chips and denies any rumor pointing to the Exynos 2500 as Samsung’s highest Galaxy S smartphone.

The Seamless updates are one more step that affirms Samsung’s refreshed commitment to software support. Right now, the Galaxy maker currently stands as one of the best Android OEMs when it comes to software support. To think that it was one of the worst back in the days of TouchWiz. We expect more improvements with the arrival of Seamless updates, as users will quickly get new updates without compromising their usage.
