Samsung One UI 7 Tweaks Game Refresh Rates: Switch Between 60Hz & 120Hz

Samsung has introduced the second beta of the One UI 7 beta, based on Android 15. A significant modification in this update changes how users can manage the refresh rate for gaming. This enhancement includes advanced adjustments to optimize frame rates, either for improved power efficiency or smoother gaming performance. In previous versions of One UI, Samsung users could reduce game frame rates to a minimum of 48 Hz. While this feature helped conserve battery life, it lacked flexibility for gamers. With the new One UI 7 beta, Samsung has streamlined the options, restricting users to only two choices—60 Hz or 120 Hz.

The refresh rate settings are now located within the dedicated Gaming Hub or the Game Booster app under “Gaming motion smoothness.” This updated control enables gamers to prioritize smoother visuals with a 120 Hz refresh rate or opt for lower power consumption at 60 Hz. This change aims to simplify the user experience, making the feature both accessible and user-friendly.

Not for All Games

Samsung has made it clear that this new setting will not work for all games. If a game has its built-in refresh rate control, it will override the Gaming Hub setting. Also, games that do not support rates over 60 Hz will not show any change when switched to 120 Hz. This means the feature is best for games that allow frame rates to adapt based on the device’s settings. For games stuck at lower rates, users will not see an improvement

The Game Booster tool also brings new options in One UI 7. Now, players can set frame rates, tweak the resolution, and adjust overall game performance for each game. This means users can fine-tune power use and smoothness for specific titles, giving more control over how their phone runs games.

These settings are easy to find and use within the Game Booster app. Samsung’s approach ensures users can balance battery life and performance based on their needs.

Samsung’s latest game refresh rate adjustments in One UI 7 are designed to streamline settings for the majority of users. By providing only 60 Hz and 120 Hz options, the update eliminates unnecessary complexity while retaining its core functionality. With additional customizations introduced in Game Booster, players gain enhanced control over graphics and power optimization for individual games.
