With the US ban, Huawei had to react quickly to reduce reliance on US-licensed technology. The company evolved enough to have its own hardware and operating system free of any kind of limitation. Now, during an appearance at Baoan Middle School in Shenzhen, Huawei CEO Richard Yu shared an interesting detail about Huawei Mate 70. As per Richard Yu, the Mate 70 is a 100% China-made smartphone. That includes a self-developed Kirin 9020 chip.

Huawei Mate 70 Series Brings Chinese components and in-house developed OS

The executive shared that Huawei has achieved 100% domestic production of chips. It is a massive milestone for Huawei and domestic chip production autonomy. The company managed to reduce reliance on Western technology. The company has successfully secured two key pillars for its smartphone operations: chipsets and operating systems.

Apart from its full independence on Hardware, Huawei has been building a solid ecosystem in software terms. In recent years, the company has been implementing HarmonyOS NEXT on all of its fronts. The new OS is designed from the ground and has no reliance on Android or AOSP code. Therefore, it does not support Android apps natively.

For now, it’s being rolled out for devices in China and Huawei promises it for all its smartphones in 2025. However, there is no word about global availability. The limited app availability poses a great challenge for international consumers. Also, most Western consumers are strongly tied to Google Services and other platforms that wouldn’t reach Huawei devices.

Despite this, Huawei still plans to bring its devices to other regions. For instance, the company is bringing the Huawei Mate 70 series to Dubai. We are curious to see how the company will move its devices in the Western scene.
