Samsung recently revealed its new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold7, Flip7, and Flip7 FE, at its big Unpacked event. While the Flip7 got a slightly bigger battery, the Fold7 is still using the same 4,400 mAh battery as last year’s Fold6. Many fans were hoping for more, especially since the Fold7 has two big screens that use a lot of power. So, why didn’t Samsung increase the battery size?

Flip7 Users Asked for It, Fold7 Users Didn’t
When asked about this choice, Samsung said it came down to what users wanted. According to the company, most Flip users were asking for longer battery life. So, the Flip7 got a boost in that area. On the other hand, Fold7 users were more interested in improvements like better cameras, a thinner and lighter body, and a larger cover screen. That’s where Samsung focused its efforts.
Trade-Offs for a Slimmer Fold
Making a phone thinner and lighter means there’s less space inside for a bigger battery. That’s likely one of the main reasons why the Fold7 couldn’t get a battery upgrade. Even though the new Fold7 is more advanced in other ways, like camera quality and screen design, it still has to make sacrifices to stay slim.
Battery Tech Needs to Catch Up
Some of Samsung’s rivals in China are already using newer battery types, like silicon-carbon (Si/C) batteries. These can store more power without taking up more space. If the South Korean tech giant switches over to this newer tech, the future Fold models could finally get the battery size boost they need.

The Fold7, compared to previous versions of the Fold series, is a strong improvement. It looks and feels better, it’s easier to carry, and it takes better photos. But it still has one big drawback: battery life. With two large screens that now take more power, many users might find that the 4,400 mAh cell just isn’t enough.
Final Thoughts
Samsung made the Fold7 thinner, lighter, and more powerful. But keeping the same battery size may disappoint users who want their phone to last longer. Until Samsung adopts newer battery technology, it looks like the Fold will continue to lag in this one key area.
