Instagram Reels Gets a 2x Speed Feature by Long-Pressing on the Screen Like TikTok

One of the top features that TikTok popularized is the faster way to watch a video, and that specific function has now made its way to Meta’s Instagram Reels, which allows users to take advantage of 2x speed on the platform.

It has already been a long-time feature that TikTok users enjoy, but it is only now that Meta has added this to its Reels experience for global users.

Instagram Reels Brings the Coveted 2x Speed Feature

CNET reports that a recent statement from an Instagram representative confirmed the arrival of one highly requested feature from users, and this is the ability to fast forward a video at 2x speed. This latest feature on Reels is different from what Meta delivered before as users can either skip ahead or back by 10 seconds on videos or scroll through the clip using the dedicated progress bar.

Instead of having to sit through an entire video to finish it before scrolling away, users may now get the chance to speed up the viewing experience.

The 2x speed helps by allowing users to still hear the audio and see the video as it progresses despite going at twice its original speed, and in this way, users would not miss any parts of the content.

2x Speed Is Highly Requested on Video Platforms

TikTok’s 2x speed has set the standard among social media platforms and other streaming apps as it allows users to consume online content at a faster rate. This has been available on YouTube for a long time now, and it was later followed by Netflix.

On Instagram Reels, users only need to long press on either the left or ride side of the screen to toggle 2x speed.

Instagram Reels and Its Latest Features

The vertical video format was popularized by TikTok, and this took global social media by storm. Meta came up with the Reels for Instagram and then Facebook, with the company regularly offering updates that bring more features, including the ability to download videos into one’s device.

While not as popular as TikTok, Instagram has since grown thanks to having Reels. Recently, the company has expanded its content creation experiences by allowing up to 20 tracks to use in a single video while editing, and this offers possibilities when it comes to content creation.

The good thing is that Meta has tried to differentiate the Reels experience from other platforms that offer the vertical video format, and many have appreciated that it is tied up with Instagram and Facebook to maximize the social media experience.
