The multimodal capabilities of OpenAI’s ChatGPT recently got upgraded as it now features an AI image generator that users may directly access via the chatbot. Instead of heading towards the DALL-E app, users may now direct their needs for AI-generated images to the renowned chatbot thanks to the new features from the GPT-4o model.
OpenAI Brings Native AI Image Generation to ChatGPT
According to the latest announcement from OpenAI, it is transforming the ChatGPT platform into a truly multimedia experience. The new feature will be available for both free and paying accounts subscribed to OpenAI’s subscription plans.
It should be noted that the Education and Enterprise tiers will get this feature next week.
The company said that ChatGPT’s new native AI image generation feature will also bring the iconic capabilities of DALL-E that offers more than creating photos from text prompts. “Chat to edit” is one of the top features of OpenAI’s image generator which is also rolling out to ChatGPT.
It was revealed by OpenAI that ChatGPT’s AI image generation capabilities will focus more on work-related generations like creating charts, bars, infographics, and other related content.

No Need for DALL-E: GPT-4o Model Expands Features
It was revealed by OpenAI that it long planned to bring image generation to its language models. This quick and easy access to image generation aims to empower users to create using one platform only.
However, users should expect the feature to have several limitations. This includes the ability to edit specific parts of the image, which is a popular feature of the DALL-E.
Despite this rollout, DALL-E would still be available to use separately for those looking for more complex image generation.
OpenAI’s Generative AI Features on ChatGPT
Since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, it has become one of the most famous chatbots in the global tech industry, offering significant features that are now capable of producing different types of content. Instead of rejecting it, it has been adapted to different settings, including home, school, and work, proving that humans and AI can co-exist in this connected world.
OpenAI made a series of massive feature drops via the “12 Days of OpenAI” showcase, which centered on significant upgrades for ChatGPT that expanded its capabilities. SearchGPT was introduced earlier in 2024 but was made available to access for free by December and was joined by other features like the ChatGPT hotline, new o-series model, and more.
Apart from these ChatGPT-specific features, OpenAI also made significant progress in offering expanded generative AI experiences to users like with Sora’s mainstream availability and DALL-E’s more powerful generation.
