Xiaomi SU7 Ultra: First Crash of the Chinese Supercar Caught on Video

Just days after the first deliveries of the anticipated Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the car was involved in its first crash. A video of the incident quickly went viral, sparking debates about safety and the need for driver training in high-performance cars. The crash took place in China, raising concerns about whether drivers are fully prepared to handle such powerful vehicles. In response, Xiaomi urged SU7 Ultra owners to complete specialized driving training before taking their cars onto the track.

What Happened in the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Crash?

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra officially launched on February 27, 2025, and quickly became a sensation. The car received 10,000 orders within the first two hours, making it one of the most talked-about electric super sedans in recent times.

However, on March 9, a newly delivered SU7 Ultra was involved in a high-speed crash at a racetrack. A video posted on the Chinese platform Weibo shows the car speeding out of a turn and accelerating down a straight section.

Shortly after, the driver braked too late and crashed into a tire barrier at over 120 km/h. The impact caused severe damage to the hood, front bumper, fenders, and headlights. Thankfully, the front airbags deployed, protecting the driver.

Brake Problems and Xiaomi’s Response

This is not the first time a Xiaomi SU7 model has been involved in a crash. Earlier reports highlighted issues with brake overheating, which caused some accidents in the standard SU7 model. Xiaomi clarified that the base SU7 is not designed for track use and is meant only for public roads. However, the SU7 Ultra is specifically built for the track, which makes this latest crash more concerning.

After the crash, Xiaomi Auto CEO Lei Jun stressed the importance of proper driver training. He recommended that all SU7 Ultra owners complete the “Xiaomi Auto Elite Driving Training” before pushing the car to its limits on the track.

Performance Limits for the First 300 km

To minimize accidents involving new and inexperienced drivers, Xiaomi has set performance limits on the SU7 Ultra for the first 300 km of use.

For the first 300 km:

Top speed is up to 140 km/h
Maximum power output caps at 900 hp (instead of the full 1,526 hp)

Once the car reaches 300 km, these restrictions are lifted, unlocking the full performance of the vehicle.

With this approach, Xiaomi hopes to help drivers gradually adjust to the extreme power of the SU7 Ultra, reducing the risk of accidents during the initial driving stages.
