Anker, Baseus, Romoss among brands hit by mass power bank recalls in China due to “safety risks”

A sweeping recall has been issued for several popular power bank models from top accessory brands, including Anker, Baseus, Romoss, and others. The move follows safety concerns linked to battery cells supplied by Amprius, which have now lost their 3C certification in China. Affected products are being pulled from shelves, with Chinese consumers urged to stop using the devices and return them immediately.

Seven Anker models confirmed in latest recall

Anker, which had already recalled over a million units of its PowerCore 10000 (A1263) in the United States earlier this year, is now facing a larger issue in its home market. In a press release dated June 20, the company confirmed that seven of its power banks have been recalled in China. These include the Anker Magnetic Power Bank 10,000 mAh (A1642), Anker 335 Power Bank (A1647), and the Zolo Travel Power Bank (A1680 and A1681), along with models A1257, A1689, and A1652.

Other major brands swept into the issue

Anker is not the only company affected. Reports indicate that other well-known Chinese electronics brands, such as Xiaomi, Baseus, Romoss, and Aukey, also sold power banks using the now-decertified Amprius cells. Ugreen was initially listed among the affected manufacturers. However, the company has since stated that it does not use the suspected batteries. Therefore, this issue does not affect its products.

The list of questionable models includes Xiaomi’s 33 W power bank with an integrated cable, Romoss’s PAC20PRO and WMS10Q-491 wireless charging models, Ugreen’s PB511 30 W power bank, and Baseus’s 10,000 mAh 20 W unit. At the moment, full confirmation of all affected models is still evolving. Nevertheless, the issue cuts across multiple price points and product categories.

Implications for users outside China

For now, these recalls are officially limited to the Chinese market. However, many of the affected products are sold globally through online platforms and third-party sellers. Users outside China may not be eligible for refunds or replacements. However, they are strongly advised to monitor their devices for unusual behavior. If you notice overheating, swelling, or inconsistent charging, its time to ditch the device.

Regulatory questions and broader risks

The recalls have led to doubts about how firms check their parts and meet rules in the fast-paced powerbank trade. The 3C group in China has now ruled that Amprius cells are not safe. This means that all gear with those parts is no longer clear to sell. As checks go on, both rule makers and firms may face pressure to tighten quality control across the board. For users, the main point is that even trusted brands are not immune to supply chain problems.
