YouTube is making a big shift in how it highlights popular content. On Thursday, the company announced it will remove its long-standing Trending page and the “Trending Now” list. In their place, YouTube will introduce more focused, category-specific charts.

This change marks the end of a single list that tried to capture what was trending across the entire platform. Instead, users will now see what’s trending within specific categories. These include new charts like Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, and Trending Movie Trailers. YouTube also plans to add more categories soon.
When YouTube launched the Trending page in 2015, internet trends were simpler. A single list could show what was going viral. But things have changed. The company says online trends now come from many sources and communities. Instead of a few big viral hits, we’re seeing more micro-trends driven by niches.
Today, viewers discover new content in many different ways. Recommendations, search results, and even comment sections now play a big role. YouTube says this shift has caused fewer people to visit the Trending page. In fact, visits have dropped steadily over the past five years.
YouTube Shifts Focus to Category Trends Over General Trending List
To reflect how people really find content today, YouTube is focusing more on personalized experiences. It will still recommend videos based on what it thinks each viewer will enjoy. But now, the platform is also offering easier ways to browse popular content by category.
If users prefer non-personalized content, they can still explore videos through the Explore tab, creator channels, and their Subscriptions feed.
YouTube is also staying focused on supporting creators. The Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio will continue offering custom ideas based on each channel’s audience. In addition, YouTube is testing new tools, like the Hype feature. This lets viewers boost videos they love, helping new creators get discovered.
To further spotlight rising talent, YouTube will continue to feature Creators on the Rise on its official social media accounts and YouTube channel.
These changes are expected to roll out over the next few weeks. YouTube says it wants to make it easier for both viewers and creators to engage with content that truly reflects what’s trending today.
