Samsung Galaxy A55 5G Could Get Android 16 Beta Soon

Samsung may soon roll out the Android 16 beta for its mid-range Galaxy A55 5G smartphone. Even though the phone launched in early 2024, new reports suggest it could be among the first non-flagship devices to try out the next version of Android.
Spotted with Android 16 on Geekbench
A phone with the model number SM-A556E, which matches the Galaxy A55 5G, was recently seen on the Geekbench site. Interestingly, the listing showed it running Android 16. This is surprising because the phone’s current official software is One UI 7, which is based on Android 15.
This leak hints that Samsung may be preparing the A55 for a public beta of One UI 8, its custom software built on Android 16. If true, the A55 would be joining Samsung’s newest high-end phones, like the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, in getting early access to the update.
Mid-Range Phone with Strong Software Support
The Galaxy A55 5G is not Samsung’s latest release, but it’s still a solid phone. It launched at a lower price than the Galaxy S series, yet it offered a decent mix of performance, battery life, and features. On Amazon, as of June 29, 2025, it’s selling for about $399.99.
While the A55 wasn’t perfect, its bezels were a bit thick, and it didn’t come with wireless charging, it still stands out for some key reasons. It supports microSD cards, which many newer phones, including its successor, the A56 5G, have dropped.
A Bonus for Long-Term Users
If the A55 5G does get an Android 16 update soon, it could be a big win for users who like to hold onto their phones for years. This major update will go on to show that Samsung is serious about supporting its mid-range devices, not just the expensive ones.
The A56 may fix some of the A55’s flaws, like the bulky screen design, but it also removes some features like microSD support. So, for people who already own the A55 5G, this news could be a reason to keep using it with confidence.

Final Thoughts
The potential Android 16 preview available for the Galaxy A55 5G represents a positive indicator. It suggests Samsung intends to continue delivering enhancements and additional features to previous, budget-friendly handsets. For consumers, this provides another motivation to maintain loyalty to the A55 throughout its operational lifespan.
