Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 May Drop S Pen Digitizer for a Slimmer Design

Samsung is getting ready to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it looks like the company is making big changes to how the device works with the S Pen. According to recent reports, Samsung may be moving away from the traditional method of stylus support to help make the foldable phone thinner than ever.
No More S Pen Digitizer?
To make the Galaxy Z Fold 7 slimmer, Samsung has reportedly removed the S Pen digitizer. This is the special hardware inside the screen that detects stylus input. Without it, the phone can’t support the current S Pen in the usual way.
This move could change how the S Pen works with the new foldable. Instead of using the same method as previous models, Samsung may adopt a different kind of input system. This would be similar to what Apple uses for its iPads, no built-in digitizer, but still able to detect stylus input using other tech.
Stylus Support Might Still Be There, Just Different
Samsung has supported the S Pen on its foldable phones for a few years, but none of the Galaxy Z Fold models have had a built-in slot for it. The S Pen is always sold separately. With the Fold 7, it’s still unclear if stylus support will stay, and if it does, how it will work.
If Samsung is using a new way to read the S Pen’s input without a digitizer, the stylus itself would need a new design. That may explain why a recent rumour claims Samsung is having trouble making a new kind of S Pen, and that production may have already been paused.

Possible Delay for the New S Pen
The rumour, which comes from a tipster known as @PandaFlashPro, says that production has stopped on an “unknown” S Pen model. As of now, we can not tell whether this S Pen is for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. But if it were, the stylus may not be available right when the phone launches.

Fortunately, confirmation won’t require prolonged anticipation. Allegedly, Samsung intends to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 7 on July 9th in New York City. That occasion should determine whether the stylus functionality undergoes reconfiguration or faces elimination from the Fold series altogether.
