AMD has kept Intel far behind in recent years with inexpensive but amazingly fast processors for professionals and gamers. Intel, however, is not surrendered. Intel will introduce a new line of processors that will fit the LGA1700 socket. The first member of this new line is the Intel Core 5 120F, and the first marketing materials about it have already been released online.
Intel Strikes Back at AMD with New Core 5 120F Processor
The Intel Core 5 120F has six premium cores with the Raptor Cove architecture. All six cores enable multithreading, and the chip can handle up to 12 threads at once. This is an important feature that provides better performance when multitasking and intensive activities such as content creation and gaming.
The processor has an integrated 18 MB L3 cache, which enhances the speed of accessing and processing data. Its thermal design power (TDP) rating stands at 65 watts, indicating that it is capable of running at high efficiency without producing excessive heat. This makes the Core 5 120F suitable for budget gaming PCs and mini desktop computers.
New Intel Core 5 120F Promises Great Gaming Performance at a Low Price
Compared to the Intel Core i5-12400F, Core 5 120F offers almost the same features. Both have the same memory types and offer almost the same performance. The only distinction is in terms of the clock speed. Core 5 120F has a slightly higher max turbo frequency of 4.5 GHz, and its base frequency is also 2.5 GHz. This slight raise can be an enormous distinction on single-core dependent workloads such as gaming.
Intel is promoting the Core 5 120F as “the ideal choice for budget gamers”. This means that Intel is trying to target budget and mainstream PC enthusiasts who want a decent gaming experience but do not want to pay too much. Although the price of Core 5 120F is not announced, it should cost around the same amount as Core i5-12400F. This will place it in the budget segment, placing it as a strong competitor to AMD‘s options in that same segment.
Intel is clearly trying to regain market share in the mainstream CPU market with this latest release. The Core 5 120F could offer a great price and performance for gamers and everyday consumers. Additional details, such as availability and price, should be official shortly.
