Qualcomm has launched its latest processor for smart glasses: the Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1. This new chip is an improved version of the earlier AR1 Gen 1 model. It offers better performance, a smaller size, and smarter features. Most importantly, this chip can run artificial intelligence (AI) directly on the glasses. There is no longer a need for a smartphone or a constant internet connection.
Qualcomm Unveils New Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1 Chip for Smart Glasses
With the AR1+ Gen 1, smart glasses can do more tasks on their own. Users can get information, use apps, and control features without connecting to a phone. This makes the glasses more useful and more independent. Qualcomm’s special Hexagon NPU (Neural Processing Unit) powers this new ability. This unit helps the glasses process small language models (SLMs) right on the device.
For example, someone in a supermarket could say, “Suggest me some recipes for my daughter’s birthday?” The glasses would quickly show recipe ideas on the display. This happens without the need to send data to the cloud or wait for the internet.

The chip is also much smaller than the older version. In fact, it is 28% smaller. This helps smart glasses makers design lighter, thinner, and more comfortable devices. Qualcomm says that glasses using this chip can be up to 20% thinner. Lighter glasses are easier to wear for longer times, making them better for everyday use.
Qualcomm also made the display features better. The chip supports binocular displays, which means clear visuals for both eyes. It also offers image stabilization and multi-frame processing. These tools give the user sharper, smoother pictures and videos. Qualcomm also made the chip use less power, so battery life will be longer.

During its launch event, Qualcomm confirmed that the new chip is already in use. Big tech companies like Meta and XReal are working with Qualcomm to build the next generation of smart glasses. These products are expected to arrive on the market soon.
With the Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1, the future of smart glasses looks bright. Users can expect faster, smarter, and lighter devices. Thanks to this chip, smart glasses may become a part of everyday life in the near future.
