One UI 8 Beta: Samsung’s Missed Opportunity

Samsung shocked the tech world by rolling out the One UI 8 Beta earlier than expected on May 28, 2025, starting with the Galaxy S25 series. The early launch was likely the result of the South Korean tech company’s collaboration with Google, keeping pace with the Android 16 development schedule.

While many users feel enthusiastic about the early rollout, others are let down. Instead of delivering big upgrades, the One UI 8 Beta feels more like a small update, not a true next-gen experience.

Small Tweaks, Not Big Changes

The South Korean tech giants made a splash with One UI 7, which introduced a fresh look, smart AI features, and a new notification layout. Naturally, users were expecting One UI 8 to build on that success.

Instead, we got minor improvements. Quick Share now separates “Send” and “Receive” options, and the Reminder app shows categories with counts. The Gallery and My Files apps have small design updates, which help a bit in daily use.

There’s also the “Now Brief” widget from the Galaxy AI suite. But here’s the catch—it was already introduced in One UI 7. One UI 8 just expands on it slightly.

Limited Availability and Confusing Rollout

A major issue is who can try the One UI 8 Beta. Right now, it’s only available in four countries: the US, UK, Germany, and South Korea. This is fewer than previous betas, which usually launched in at least seven countries.

Many large markets, like India, have been left out. Although beta forum pages suggest it may expand, Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything yet. This lack of clear communication is frustrating.

It gets worse, only Galaxy S25 users can join for now. Even users with last year’s S24 or the older S23 are left waiting. And there’s no mention of support for the popular A-series phones or older flagships.

Poor Communication and Unclear Plans

The lack of public awareness calls for significant concerns. Google has been straightforward with fans about Android 16’s release schedule, and Apple is known for being clear about its timelines, but Samsung has given no clear time frame for when the One UI 8 will be released, just a vague “July to August 2025” window.

Also, fewer users are being invited to test the beta. Samsung says that’s because the software is already stable. But many believe getting more feedback, not less, helps make better software.

Final Thoughts: A Disappointing Start

It’s great that Samsung launched the beta early, but after the thrill of the One UI 7, the One UI 8 Beta feels like a setback. The lack of new and exciting features has left so many fans disheartened. Let’s keep our fingers crossed as we expect more from the final release. But for now, the first impression isn’t great.
