The PayPal integration on Google Wallet is coming to an end, and this means that users may no longer use their linked accounts on the digital payment platform for all kinds of transactions later this month.
This follows the previous change made by Google that no longer allowed users to link a PayPal account to the Wallet app earlier this year, leaving users to rely on other services.
Effectively, this ends the almost decade-long partnership between Google and PayPal, which previously enabled users to utilize Android devices’ contactless payment and tap-to-pay features.
Google Wallet’s PayPal Integration Is Ending
A new Google support document confirmed that its Google Wallet’s PayPal integration is coming to an end, and this took place after the company stopped accepting new accounts linking to the platform last April. Here, the company stated that, starting June 13, users will no longer be able to use their PayPal accounts for in-store payments via the Google Wallet app.
Google did not reveal the exact reason why it is removing the PayPal integration on its Wallet app, but Android users will no longer be able to enjoy transactions via these accounts and will have to opt for other services.

Alongside this, Google also revealed that starting this June 13, their PayPal accounts would now be removed from the Wallet app, with their data being purged from it, according to a report by 9toGoogle.
The report further revealed that the same thing happened in Germany, and this may point to “larger things” happening for PayPal on Android, with contactless payment support coming to its native app.
Google Wallet’s Digital Features
Google’s device-based digital payments platform has come by many names. It previously went by the name Android Pay and then transitioned to Google Pay, but this fully transitioned to Google Wallet only last year. This was despite Google already using the Wallet platform for many functionalities like storing credit and debit cards, digital IDs, passes, room keys, and more.
Android users had the luxury of storing digital state IDs on the Google Wallet app as well, and this allowed them to keep a copy of their registered national identity, which was supported across different checkpoints. Select TSA checkpoints accepted the use of digital state IDs via Google Wallet, allowing users to fly domestically without the need to bring their physical ID cards at all times.
One of the most unique features of Google Wallet is its capability to store car keys for select brands that support the feature, allowing users to lock and unlock their cars and also start their engines.
Google Wallet’s massive function evolved from being an app that can store one’s digital identities and payment platforms, but that would no longer include PayPal moving forward.
