Report: Instagram for iPad Is Coming After Meta Releases WhatsApp’s Version—But When?

Meta is reportedly now working on developing a new iPad app designed to deliver Instagram to larger screens, specifically for the Apple tablet.

This comes after a recent surprising move by Meta where the company released a WhatsApp version for the iPad after over a decade, with it finally exiting beta only days ago.

Instagram for iPad Is Reportedly Coming Soon

The latest edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman bears good news for all iPad users and Instagram fans as Meta may finally be putting two and two together to deliver the much-awaited experience soon.

The report reveals that Meta is now “full steam ahead” in creating this Instagram for iPad version that the public may soon receive, and the report further states that the app will come within this year.

It was revealed by Gurman that employees over at Meta Platforms have shared that the company is now “actively testing” the Instagram for iPad app, but it was not revealed where they currently are in its development.

Will It Follow the WhatsApp iPad Version?

This comes after Meta delivered WhatsApp for iPad last week, and this sparked hopes amongst fans for the Instagram app’s upgrade for Apple’s larger device.

For over 15 years, users on the iPad have struggled with the iPhone version of Instagram being the only option they have to use the platform on Apple’s tablet.

They are given the pixelated version of the Instagram app which has been stretched to appear larger on iPads, but despite using the 2x zoom, it still has black bezels running alongside it.

Instagram for iPad’s Over 15-Year Wait

Instagram has gone through massive changes and improvements especially after it was acquired by Facebook (now Meta), yet an iPad app is still unavailable for it. The public’s hopes were also constantly put down as the company even went on to say that is not under development.

Meta has focused on developing certain experiences for users under its suite of apps and services, including the arrival of Meta AI, as well as upgrades to the social media platforms and the Quest wearables. Despite Instagram having a separate team to handle everything about the app, they still did not focus on developing the iPad version of the app.

Because of this, the public no longer expected anything from Meta regarding the iPad version of the photo and video sharing platforms. However, this year may be different as there have been reports about the Instagram for iPad app development.
