Ahead of the upcoming Apple WWDC 2025 event next month, a new set of rumors has emerged, sharing information about the anticipated major release from the company, the iPhone 17, with a focus on the latest features of the device.
The latest speculations suggest changes are coming to Apple’s next smartphone, including the A18 chip that will power the device, as well as a revamp to its Dynamic Island.
iPhone 17 Speculations: A18 Chip, Smaller Dynamic Island
The base iPhone 17 device that is coming later this year is not getting the new chipset that Apple will develop, according to the latest report by GF analyst Jeff Pu (via 9to5Mac). This latest speculation from the analyst now contradicts the beliefs that the entire iPhone 17 lineup would use the same A19 chip, which is the next-generation development of the company.
It was shared by Pu that Apple will opt to deliver the iPhone 17’s base variant with the A18 chip, the same processor that powers the current generation of its smartphones, the iPhone 16.
Apart from this, the base iPhone 17 would only reportedly feature a LPDDR5 8GB memory that would be unlike the expectations of an upgraded 12GB memory.

Will Apple Talk About the iPhone 17 in WWDC 2025?
Alongside this, Apple will also reportedly include a smaller Dynamic Island for the iPhone 17’s base variant, but the same cannot be said for the other versions of the device.
For now, it remains unknown if Apple will feature hints or a showcase for the iPhone 17 lineup this WWDC 2025, especially with the many changes coming to the base device.
Apple is known for previously featuring hardware announcements during the developer conference, particularly back in 2022 when it unveiled the Vision Pro to the world.
Apple’s iPhone 17 Rumors So Far
The iPhone 17 was previously touted as the device that would deliver massive design change and feature other tweaks to its hardware, according to rumors, but it could still go either way based on reports.
However, one source has claimed that Apple will instead focus on effecting the future hardware revamp of the iPhone lineup two years later, with 2027 also known as the device’s 20th anniversary.
That being said, Apple is also rumored to offer a new look for the iPhone 17’s Pro variant that is expected to arrive alongside the regular release as a change to its rear camera array has been rumored. Instead of the small square island, the iPhone 17 Pro devices would get the rectangular round camera bar that is spread out on the top rear part of the device, featuring its usual three-lens setup.
Alongside this, one of Apple’s reported biggest surprises for the next smartphone releases is the speculated iPhone 17 Air device that would deliver the thinnest iPhone in its history, with many believing it is coming this year.
It is an essential device for Apple as it will not only add another variant to its lineup, but it will also be the launchpad for its rumored plans to deliver an iPhone Fold in the future.
