When Samsung pushes out a major update like One UI 7, it’s usually accompanied by a few headliners: a sleeker interface, better system performance, maybe some tweaks you’ll barely notice but eventually appreciate. But this time, there’s something more tangible — and, well, more fun. As of this month, the Camera Assistant app is officially supported on three newer mid-range Samsung devices: the Galaxy A56, Galaxy M56, and Galaxy F56. And no, you don’t have to wait for the update — these phones come with One UI 7 already baked in.
It’s a small detail, maybe, but one that makes a pretty big difference if you’re the type who cares about mobile photography.
So, What’s the Big Deal with Samsung Camera Assistant?
Here’s the gist: Camera Assistant isn’t just another app sitting quietly in your drawer. It gives you access to a bunch of granular settings that the default camera interface hides. Want more control over how the lens switches during video? Done. Prefer softer images or sharper ones? Flip a toggle. Curious whether Auto HDR improves your shots? You can now decide for yourself.
That’s the point. It lets you decide. I tried it last year on a Galaxy S23 and it completely changed how I approached mobile photography. Now seeing it land on mid-range phones like the A56 and M56 feels… overdue, honestly. But still very welcome.
What You Can Actually Do With It
Let’s break it down — here’s what becomes available once you open the app:
- Add a 2x zoom button right to the camera screen (super useful for quick framing)
- Adjust shutter speed responsiveness (fast clickers, rejoice)
- Auto lens switching for seamless transitions between wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses
- Auto HDR toggling, if you’d rather control dynamic range manually
- Picture softening to tweak sharpness depending on your subject
- Distortion correction, especially handy for wide-angle shots
- Adaptive pixel technology, which adjusts photo output based on lighting (and yes, it actually helps)
It’s kind of like unlocking “pro mode” without having to dive fully into Pro mode — if that makes sense.

Version 3.0.00.3 Brings the Support
The current version of the app — Samsung Camera Assistant 3.0.00.3 — now officially lists support for the Galaxy A56, M56, and F56. Samsung included this in the changelog, although they didn’t exactly shout it from the rooftops. It was spotted by a few users (and sites like SammyFans), and it’s been confirmed since.
So yes, it’s here. And yes, it works.
Oh, and One More Neat Trick…
While not technically part of Camera Assistant, One UI 7 also introduces a quietly powerful feature: the ability to save videos directly to a USB-C drive. You plug it in, you hit record, and voilà — your video is written straight to external storage. No transfers, no fuss. If you shoot a lot of high-res video, or just hate seeing your internal storage crawl toward full, this might be one of those under-the-radar features that becomes essential.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve just picked up a Galaxy A56, M56, or F56, the arrival of Camera Assistant is good news. It’s one of those tools that doesn’t seem like a game-changer until you actually start using it — and then you wonder why it wasn’t there all along. The fact that these features are now making their way to the mid-tier lineup is a sign that Samsung’s trying to balance premium-level software across more of its devices. Whether it’s a move to stay ahead of competitors or just make users happy, I’ll take it.
Camera nerd or not, it’s worth giving Camera Assistant a shot. Pun intended.
