Huawei is ready to move into the desktop market with its new Kirin X90 processor. The processor will be at the center of introducing Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system to PCs for the first time.

Leaked information reveals that the Kirin X90 comes with a 10-core architecture. The cores are configured in “4 + 4 + 2” setup. When Hyper-Threading is turned on, the processor can handle a maximum of 20 threads at the same time. This means better multitasking and faster performance in day to day operations.

The Kirin X90 has the code name “Charlotte Pro.” It can be a desktop variant of the just launched Kirin 9010 this year. In graphics, it will feature a quicker Maleoon 920 GPU. This would improve graphics performance in gaming and content creation.

Although Huawei has not yet officially released performance figures, preliminary leaks indicate that the chip efficiently handles many different tasks. It will be providing support for standard as well as high performance computing processes.

The second most critical aspect is the hardware support for SM3 and SM4 encryption built into the chip. They are the national cryptography standards of China. In a move that integrates them into hardware, Huawei demonstrates it cares about data security and protection. It also demonstrates that the company cares to include more local technology into its products.

Huawei Kirin X90 Processor is a Key Component in HarmonyOS PC Transition

Huawei will likely feature the Kirin X90 in its first HarmonyOS-powered laptops, which the company plans to launch by the end of the year. This will mark a major step for Huawei, combining its own hardware and software into one system.

By developing both the processor and the operating system, Huawei has totally dominated its products. It can also decrease its dependence on foreign technologies. The step would make the company more competitive in the international PC market.
