The Apple Watch has been a health and lifestyle wearable that many has been able to enjoy, and while it received improvements over the years, there are still reviews claiming that it is in dire need of a makeover.
But for a device that is as small and compact, what exactly does a makeover or refresh mean for the device, especially amidst the new features available today?
Apple’s watchOS 12 Is Getting a Refresh
The Verifier has given a glimpse into what the watchOS 12 may feature when it becomes available, but many are now wondering what it means for the Apple Watch, whose main purpose is to complement the iPhone?
Over the years, Apple’s software updates and changes for the Apple Watch introduced new features for the wearable, offering a more intuitive experience that integrates the latest experiences for users. According to 9to5Mac, the last revamp for the Apple Watch’s operating system was back in 2023 with the watchOS 10, and it too focused on a refresh for its interface.
Analyst Mark Gurman revealed that Apple wants a more cohesive and consistent look across its software ecosystem, with the iPhone’s iOS 19, iPad’s iPadOS 19, and Mac’s macOS 16 soon adopting the visionOS’ design.
However, for something as small as the Apple Watch, the changes may not be noticeable for users, especially for those who barely explore what it offers and use it as a health tracker.

Apple Intelligence
One of the biggest claims in the report is the future arrival of Apple Intelligence to the Apple Watch that is reportedly coming via the watchOS 12. However, this raises the question on whether the Apple Watch’s current and recent versions can upgrade to it with its existing chipsets or will the upgrade be limited to new releases.
Moreover, it is also important to note that Apple requires at least 8GB of RAM to run Apple Intelligence on the device, and this is something that the Apple Watch would not be able to deliver, especially among current devices.
That being said, the report said that users who get Apple Intelligence on the Watch would be able to access Siri’s advanced features and even ChatGPT, as well as getting the ability to create Genmojis from one’s wrist.
Additionally, Notification Summaries would also be available should Apple Intelligence arrive to watchOS 12.
