Apple Foldable iPhone Rumors: Face ID Is Embedded, But What About Dynamic Island?

For many years, Apple has focused on a seamless and straightforward design for its iPhones, but that may be about to change because of the rumored foldable iPhone.

New rumors have emerged sharing new details about its design. Sources have narrowed down on a possible revamp of the Face ID that will reportedly be soon embedded in its screen.

This has led to questions about the future of the Dynamic Island for the foldable iPhone, especially as the technology is relatively new and Apple has recently made it a standard to all its new releases, except for the iPhone 16e.

Foldable iPhone New Rumors: Face ID Embedded In Screen

A new rumor from a source named Digital Chat Station (via 9to5Mac) revealed new dimensions of the iPhone Fold, which has led to speculations on a possible under-display Face ID camera. In current versions of the iPhone, its front-facing cameras are responsible for also scanning a user’s face to unlock the device, otherwise known as the TrueDepth Camera, which combines it with the ability to take selfies.

According to the leak, the iPhone Fold will have a 7.76-inch inner screen with 2713x1920p resolution while its outer screen will feature a 5.49-inch display with 2088x1422p quality once it arrives.

Moreover, a recent Apple patent hinting at a solution to an under-display front camera and Face ID appeared, saying that it will opt to remove subpixels to better utilize its scanning technology using infrared transmission (IR).

What About Apple’s Dynamic Island on the Foldable?

Apple has long opted for the front-facing camera to be above the display and have the design built around it for its notches, and most recently, the Dynamic Island, which offers a smaller and less distractive design for users.

Should Apple opt for the under-display Face ID, there will be no more need for the Dynamic Island, and this could potentially change the future of the iPhone lineup, starting with the foldable iPhone.

iPhone Fold Rumors: The Future Is Flexible

There are still no confirmations from the Cupertino-based tech giant that it is truly developing a foldable version of its iconic iPhones. No hints have also come from Apple regarding it, which is, well, a classic Apple move.

However, rumors have been growing in number, especially those that pertain to the new details about its development, and it was recently revealed that it may be coming by next year. It has also been rumored that it is expected to use the same technology as the iPhone 17 Air, which is speculated to debut later this fall.

The industry believes that the iPhone 17 Air will be key to what the foldable iPhone would deliver, particularly as the thinner body would be beneficial to a foldable Apple smartphone for a slimmer form factor.

It is believed that the iPhone 16e’s C1 modem, Apple’s first in-house 5G chipset, will also play a massive role in its size reduction, and this processor would also be present to the iPhone 17 Air.

However, the real challenge for Apple now is to give the foldable iPhone adequate battery life without affecting its size, and to do so, rumors claimed that the company is now creating a chip that would help better manage its power consumption.

There are still a lot that remains unknown behind Apple’s development of the foldable iPhone or if there ever is one that will even release in the future, but speculations claimed it will feature Apple Intelligence and a special iOS for it.

The future is flexible for Apple, per the rumors and leaks, as the foldable iPhone would reportedly be followed by another folding device, but this time, a significantly larger one.
