Apple to Reportedly Launch M5 iPad Pro, MacBook Pro With Chip Upgrade Within the Year

After debuting all the M4-powered devices, Apple is now reportedly gearing up for the next release of its latest chipset, with the new M5 coming to the iPad Pro and then the MacBook Pro later this year.

Moreover, Apple will reportedly also hold off on design changes for these releases, particularly as the company is planning more improvements to arrive in succeeding releases instead.

Apple’s M5 to Reportedly Debut Soon on iPad Pro, MacBook Pro

The latest details surrounding Apple’s M-series chip has been tackled by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter.

The report from the analyst claims that Apple will first release the iPad Pro featuring the M5 chip later this year, and it’s now in the late stage of testing and will soon start its production. Availability will reportedly be in the second half of 2025.

On the other hand, Apple will reportedly set another fall showcase for the M5 MacBook Pro, and it is expected to arrive around the same time as its past releases. This would put the MacBook Pro’s M5 upgrade to debut around the Halloween season.

Chip Upgrade Only For 2025, Massive Overhaul Soon

According to Gurman, the upcoming iPad Pro and MacBook Pro M5 upgrades will only focus on a chip update for both devices, and they will not have any drastic changes. Additionally, Apple will reportedly not yet give the M5 iPad Pro the new in-house 5G modem known as the C1.

The MacBook Pro is said to experience revamp with the M6 chip later on, with the iPad Pro also receiving these anticipated upgrades by 2027. Gurman claims that Apple has already begun early work in preparation for the M6.

What Is Next for the MacBook Pro and Other Devices

In the past years, there have been massive reports about what is coming next for Apple’s computer development, as well as the M-series chipsets, with one of the biggest rumors centering on the MacBook Pro. One example of a MacBook Pro rumor is its OLED display upgrade that will reportedly arrive by 2026 or 2027 with the new display paired with the latest M-series chip.

Other speculations claim that Apple may already blur the lines between the MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro come 2026 as it will deliver the first foldable MacBook that would be powered by the M5 chip. It has been claimed that this device will be an expensive release from Apple, as it may have the same price tag as the Vision Pro and was rumored to debut by 2026 alongside a new mixed-reality headset.
