The recent Nintendo Direct mentioned no Switch 2 features or titles yet, we have heard that there’s a huge change on the way we share our digital games with other players.
With the groundbreaking announcement about Virtual Game Cards for the Nintendo Switch, it’s now easier to lend and play digital titles between consoles.

Virtual Game Cards are not exactly replacements for the physical cartridges, but they just look like actual cartridges. If you have two or more consoles, it’s now more seamless to share the game progress with them.
Users will only require a local connection in the initial console setup between several consoles, with an internet connection when “loading” or “ejecting” a game. After being loaded, there is no internet needed to play.
With this, there’s no need to deal with inconvenient access for digital purchases across multiple accounts.
In contrast to the earlier setup, where digital games on a secondary console could be accessed by only the owner, Virtual Game Cards enable any account on a Switch to play. This feature is a breakthrough for families and homes with more than one Switch user.

You Can Borrow a Switch Game, But For a Limited Time Only
One of the highlights of the Virtual Game Card system is lending games to family members. If family members are associated with the same group, they can borrow a game for 14 days, Polygon wrote in its report.
When the period of the loan expires, the Virtual Game Card automatically reverts to the owner. But a single game can be lent to a family member at a time.
Will Virtual Game Cards Work on Switch 2?
Nintendo has not stated if the Virtual Game Card system will be included in the Switch 2. Up to this point, this is just a rumor. Nevertheless, the new system seems aimed at making the management of digital libraries between consoles more straightforward, and it is thus probable that Nintendo systems in the future will use this feature
