iPhone users can no longer use Google Assistant on Waze, the company confirmed in its latest announcement. The navigation app blamed the “ongoing difficulties” within the platform.
For Android users, there’s nothing to worry about, but for other users, Waze promised to roll out an “improved voice integration solution” in the future.

Waze has stated that it will stop supporting Google Assistant on iOS devices because it has had ongoing trouble keeping it working. In the last year, most iPhone users experienced voice commands becoming unreliable or just plain not working at all.
After many attempts to solve the glitch, Waze decided to discontinue Google Assistant altogether instead of patching a feature that would not work consistently.

What About Android Users?
Google Assistant will remain functional on Waze for Android users, though it is unclear how long it will last. Google is moving its digital assistant capabilities to Gemini, a more sophisticated AI-based system. Consequently, standard Google Assistant capabilities will possibly be discontinued across the board.
Google’s Transition from Assistant to Gemini
Google has already announced its intention to phase out Google Assistant in favor of Gemini, its new-generation AI model, with the promise of a smoother user interface.
It’s important to note that this shift will render most smartphones without access to the traditional Google Assistant by the close of the year. In addition, Google Assistant will also become non-downloadable in app stores, with Gemini being the go-to voice assistant going forward, according to a report by Engadget.
Waze Testing Gemini for Traffic Reports
Waze is not losing any time in adjusting to this transition. The app has already begun testing Gemini as an option within the app. This update enables users to report traffic accidents and other problems in natural language, allowing for easier app use while driving.
A year ago, Waze brought improved navigation features, including speed alerts, parking assistance, and roundabout guidance.
