Tesla Tests ‘Virtual Queues’ For Supercharger Stations: No More Fighting Over Full Charging Spots

A new possible solution to long queues at charging station will soon be tested by Tesla, and it involves setting up “virtual queues” that will allow more owners to register for a spot in the line waiting to charge their vehicles.

More and more drivers are adopting clean energy cars as their ride of choice, but this presented a problem as the demand for charging stations skyrocketed. Despite the many available stations, they seem to not be enough.

Previous reports on forums and social media show that many people are now fighting over spots in Supercharger stations, particularly as cars line up for their chance to charge up their EVs. Many have even resorted to cutting in line.

Tesla Will Test ‘Virtual Queues’ on Supercharger Stations

Tesla has now come up with a possible solution that would help owners with their struggles in trying to charge their EVs at Supercharger stations. According to the latest announcement by Tesla Charging, the company will soon pilot virtual queues starting Q2 2025, and it will be available in select sites.

The latest idea from Tesla is looking to improve its current system where Tesla EV drivers have to queue up physically, using their cars, and wait for a charging stall to open up. Usually, the situation in these charging stalls is on a first come, first serve basis, which sometimes gets cheated by impatient drivers.

It was revealed by the company that they look to improve its customer experience during wait times, but Tesla has yet to unveil how they would implement this new virtual queue and if non-Tesla EVs like Ford, GM, and more could also access virtual queues.

Tesla EV Drivers Fight Over Supercharger Charging Spots

Over the past years, there have been reports from drivers on Tesla forums that detail fist fights happening in Supercharger stations as drivers quarrel among themselves.

However, it went as far as drivers resorting to more violent means, with one fight leading to a deadly shooting at a Tesla charging station.

Tesla and Its Supercharger Expansion Plans

The growth of electric vehicle adoption in the United States and the rest of the world has somehow turned into a problem, and while this meant more sales for companies like Tesla, there is more pressure to add more charging stations.

Dating back to as early as 2021, Tesla Superchargers already see it getting packed, with many EV owners queuing up on the roads to wait their turn to charge.

That being said, Musk claimed that he has a solution already in place to alleviate the long queues and everyday struggles of EV owners who rely on Supercharger stations. Last year, Tesla announced that it added a total of 2,800 more stalls in Superchargers around the world, with the total of its stations already reaching over 250,000 found globally.

However, Tesla needs to add more as non-Tesla EVs that have adopted its North American Charging Standard (NACS) were given eligibility to charge on Supercharger stations, adding more volume. The answer may be these virtual queues that Tesla is about to test.
