Unveiling Samsung’s Strategic AI Partnership: An Opportunity Apple Ignored

February 18, 2025
Apple and Samsung are exploring local AI solutions for their smartphones in China. Apple initially considered using DeepSeek AI but later dropped the idea. Now, reports suggest Samsung is looking to integrate DeepSeek into its Chinese smartphones. This AI model has gained attention for its advanced capabilities and cost-effectiveness.
Apple Chooses Alibaba Over DeepSeek
Apple originally planned to partner with DeepSeek to enhance its AI features for iPhones in China. However, the company has now decided to work with Alibaba instead. Apple aims to regain market share in China, where competitors like Huawei have surged ahead by offering advanced AI-powered devices.
The reason for this shift is simple—Apple Intelligence relies on OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is unavailable in China due to government regulations. Without ChatGPT, Apple needs a local AI provider to deliver similar features to its users in the region. If the iPhone 16 lacks strong AI capabilities, it will struggle to compete with AI-driven Chinese smartphones.

Samsung Considers DeepSeek AI
Samsung needs a local AI partner in China, just like Apple. A famous leaker says Samsung will add DeepSeek AI to its smartphones in China. The company might change its software to use DeepSeek’s features better.
DeepSeek is a logical choice. It is already popular in China, meets the country’s strict AI regulations, and offers strong performance. By using DeepSeek AI, Samsung can enhance its One UI ecosystem and improve its smart services for Chinese users.
Samsung’s Competitive Strategy in China
Huawei leads the Chinese smartphone market with strong AI features. Samsung needs to compete by offering similar AI technology. A partnership with DeepSeek could help Samsung attract more buyers and grow its market share.
Samsung has not officially confirmed a partnership with DeepSeek. But if this AI integration happens—and if Samsung fixes issues like fast charging limits—its smartphones could compete much better in China.
