Meta Threads Brings ‘Media’ Tab Like X/Twitter, Alongside Photo Tags and New Markup Tool

A major update recently landed on Threads, and Meta is now offering users more useful features on the platform that is similar to what they will find on Instagram, and many other social media platforms. First off, there is now the ‘Media’ tab which is a dedicated collection of the photos and videos uploaded by users, with Instagram’s CEO claiming that this has been one of the top requested features.

On the other hand, Meta also gave it the photo tagging feature which allows users to search for a username and tag others like what Instagram has available, as well as the new ‘markup’ tool for reshared posts.

Meta Adds ‘Media’ Tab For Threads Like X/Twitter’s Feature

Instagram’s Adam Mosseri shared an announcement over at Threads today, detailing the latest features of Meta’s microblogging platform which has taken a page from renowned platforms with its ‘Media’ tab. The new tab can be found on an account’s profile alongside the ‘Threads,’ ‘Replies,’ and ‘Reposts’ tab which categorizes a user’s posts and makes it easier for others to browse.

The Media tab contains all the media-related posts made by a specific user like photos and videos, and this has been one of the most requested features on Threads according to Mosseri.

It is known that X/Twitter long had this feature, with Bluesky recently adding one for users’ pleasure, making browsing a profile easier and not requiring them to scrub through text-based posts at all times.

Threads Photo Tagging and Markup Tool Now Available

On the other hand, Mosseri also announced that Instagram’s beloved tagging is now available on Threads, and users may add photo tags of other usernames they search on the platform by tapping on the subject or other parts of the image.

Lastly, Meta’s previous announcement of the ‘markup’ tool on Threads is now live, and this feature allows users to be more creative when reposting, as it allows them to add doodles, highlights, or lines when sharing.

Threads and its Massive Features Added by Meta

Meta and other rivals are still capitalizing on the significant notoriety of Elon Musk’s X which sees many users departing the platform in favor of alternatives—as they do not approve of the billionaire’s direction. Threads are one of the top choices there is, and Meta has since stepped up the features available for users, including the content management experience that allows users to schedule posts up to 75 days ahead.

After X/Twitter removed the beloved ‘TweetDeck’ as it made its API exclusive to paying users, other microblogging platforms developed their version of it to answer what the public wants from these types of social media. Meta launched the ‘ThreadsDeck’ last year to offer a dedicated content management experience on the platform, treating influencers and managers to an easier way to run their accounts.

While there are also several unpopular moves from Meta, particularly when Mark Zuckerberg dismissed the platform’s third-party content moderation team in favor of a Community Notes-like experience, Threads is still growing significantly in the industry. With this, Threads looks to expand more of its experiences by offering a dedicated Media tab that allows users to easily find content, as well as photo tags, and a markup tool now available on the platform.
