As we’ve entered 2025, the expected year for the next update in the iPhone SE series, the leaks are starting to pop out. The latest leak is quite interesting for all those waiting for the new cost-effective iPhone. The series will drop the SE moniker for a new name that associates it with the current iPhones. The previously-rumored iPhone SE 4 or iPhone SE 2025 will be called iPhone 16E. According to the latest report, the iPhone 16E will launch in April, and today we get some of its key specifications thanks to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station.

iPhone 16E Specifications and Upgrades

Despite its name, the iPhone 16E’s similarities with the regular lineup are limited to some of the specifications. Regarding the design, the new iPhone will be an iPhone 14 with some tweaks. In other words, we will see the return of the traditional notch with large bezels all around. The new iPhone 16E is said to come with a 6.06-inch Full HD+ LTPS OLED screen. It will also feature a 60 Hz refresh rate and a notch for the new Face IT tech. It is worth noting that this will be the first time the former SE series gets the Face ID tech.

The iPhone 16E will also get a flat metal frame, single rear camera, and water resistance rating. In terms of performance, the smartphone will carry the excellent Apple A18 chip, meaning it will be ready for Apple Intelligence. The new device is a massive upgrade over the iPhone 14 and a nice entrance to the iPhone world. The rumors say it will be the cheapest iPhone available in 2025. It will come with a price tag of $499 which is $300 less than the first iPhone 16 in the ladder. It is still $70 more than its predecessor, but we have to agree that the market changed a lot since 2022.

The chipset upgrade, Face ID, and OLED screen make the iPhone 16E the most interesting upgrade in this lineup. With the launch rumored for April, we expect to hear more about it in the coming months.
