Heads-up displays (HUDs) took over the car world as one of the most advanced techs which utilized the windshield as another type of display, but Hyundai Mobis is looking to redefine it with their entry to CES 2025 with their HWDs. The South Korean automotive company’s holographic windshield display (HWD) is unlike your usual HUDs as it covers the entire front glass.
Moreover, this technology also takes it up a notch as it can deliver a better display than your typical HUD and it offers better colors and pictures displayed on the car’s glass which can also be used by the front passenger.

Hyundai Mobis debuted their top advancement for vehicles right at the start of the year, via the biggest consumer tech showcase in the world, CES 2025, to debut their new Holographic Windshield Display in its first global outing. The company revealed that this was made possible thanks to its collaboration with the German optical company, ZEISS, which helped them deliver this new and unique display for cars.
The typical HUD which has long been available to premium and regular cars may already bring a useful feature for users, but it is unlike Mobis’ HWDs that are capable of filling a massive part of the windshield with its display.
Mobis integrated a series of projectors under the vehicle’s dashboard, and at CES 2025, the company shared a prototype of the technology through Hyundai Mobis’ KIA EV9 with the ‘transparent display’ which offers a new kind of vehicle-to-driver experience.

Holographic Car Display Covers Entire Windshield
Users need not worry about where to place the HWD, as they may program it to appear anywhere on the windshield and will not be limited to a small corner like previous HUDs debuted by other brands. Additionally, it can cover the entire windshield with display while keeping a clear view of the road ahead said Hyundai, featuring a tech called the Holographic Optical Element (HOE) which is a film that uses light diffraction to properly deliver the intended display.
Not only that, the driver and passenger may also beam separate displays for each side, transforming the entire front windshield into a customizable holographic display for users.
Hyundai’s Car Innovations Debuted in the World
South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group has made its mark worldwide with its massively significant innovations in the automotive world throughout the years, and the company is now considered one of the top global brands. Hyundai previously went all-in with their plans for electrification, and this includes doubling their EV development where it will debut more units to distinguish itself from rivals.
Back in 2023, Hyundai also developed its version of the “crab walk” capabilities for its electric vehicles, particularly with the IONIQ 5 EV which the South Korean car brand called the ‘e-Corner system.’ Traditional vehicles may only go forwards and backward, and turn using their rack and pinion which is directed by the steering wheel, but crab walking via the e-Corner system can have it going sideways, diagonal, and do a 360-degree spin in its spot.
Hyundai is looking to expand more of its developments by introducing a new low-cost electric vehicle called the INSTER EV to expand more on its offers, succeeding its famed IONIQ lineup that is packed with technology. Now, Hyundai Mobis introduced one of the most intuitive HUDs in a vehicle which it called the HWD, a projected display capable of appearing on the entire windshield and sharing more useful information for drivers.
