There is no denying that Alexa is one of the most popular AI voice assistants of the present era, and it has been a massive part of the smart home experiences for users, but it is also getting a generative AI upgrade that Amazon is still working on. For now, Alexa is still under development after a promise of an upgrade by the company, but fair warning, the beloved assistant’s newfound skills are delayed.
Despite all of these wait for Alexa’s massive upgrade, it is still one of the most promising AI voice assistants comingsoon to the market as Amazon’s artificial general intelligence (AGI) team is working on the technology.
Amazon Alexa’s Generative AI Upgrade Is Still Delayed
According to the latest report by the Financial Times, Amazon’s AGI team head, Rohit Prasad, recently shared an update on Alexa’s anticipated upgrade to deliver generative AI experiences for users. Prasad regarded that the team still needs time to work on improving the technology that would power Alexa into a different kind of AI assistant, one that would transform it into an “agent.”
It was revealed that Amazon is already two years and counting since it announced its redesign for Alexa with generative AI capabilities, with this egregious process regarded as a ‘brain transplant’ for the voice assistant.
This massive change does not only look to upgrade Alexa into a generative AI-capable voice assistant but to transform it into an “agentic” product that will offer a more personalized experience for many processes a user requires.

Hallucination-Free AI Experience for Amazon Alexa
Prasad revealed that this ‘brain transplant’ for Alexa should be perfect, claiming that they are working on developing a model whose hallucinations are “close to zero,” unlike the many artificial intelligence available now. Another challenge that Amazon’s AGI team is looking to solve is to improve the ‘latency’ of the AI model when responding to prompts as well as reliability before it is applied to Alexa and released to the world.
Alexa and Its Upcoming Supercharged Upgrade
Almost a year ago, reports about Amazon’s massive developments towards a more smarter and capable Alexa AI voice assistant were in the works, with claims sharing that it would be a massive advancement for the tech. The massive upgrades coming to Alexa are meant to ‘supercharge’ the AI voice assistant from its current features, but it will come with a caveat where users have to pay for the experience.
Last August shared one of the biggest upgrades for Alexa and that is when Amazon partnered with a US-based AI startup, Anthropic, which delivered the Claude AI model to the voice assistant. This specific version was dubbed “Remarkable Alexa,” and it began its premium offering of a more advanced experience for Alexa-enabled devices via a monthly subscription model.
Amazon turned to Anthropic’s Claude because of its struggles in developing its self-made generative AI and large language models (LLMs) which prevented Alexa from promptly responding to user prompts. Amazon’s AGI team is still working on transforming the Alexa experience that the world knows of, and their goal is to deliver a generative AI to power the voice assistant that is free from hallucinations.
