The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and OpenAI have reportedly been discussing a potential partnership that seeks to use artificial intelligence in drug evaluations of the agency.
The goal is to use AI to fast-track the processes of the agency, particularly as these can take some time to complete.
This is particularly true with drug evaluations, and the FDA reportedly wants to speed things up on its end.
FDA, OpenAI Discussing AI Use for Drug Evaluations
A new report from Wired reveals the supposed ongoing discussions between the FDA and OpenAI that seeks to leverage AI for future drug evaluations under the agency. This will be potentially operational under the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE), which is known for regulating over-the-counter and prescription drugs all over the United States.
The goal is to fast track the processes in drug evaluations that are normally done by experts and staff, with AI lending them a helping hand in evaluating an upcoming drug and its content to ensure its safety for public use.
Neither the FDA nor OpenAI has officially confirmed that they are entering a partnership as of press time.

AI Use in the Medical World
AI has proven itself to be useful in many industries, including healthcare and medicine. According to the prediction by former tech CEO and philanthropist Bill Gates, AI may soon take over the medicine industry in a short 10 years.
Many medical researchers and scientists have already applied the use of generative AI in their quest to find new cures or medicines to help against incurable diseases and more. There are many known diseases that have limited to no available treatments, and these researchers are leveraging the use of AI in helping them come up with a possible solution to them.
Apart from this, AI has been used in hospitals to improve their patient care, helping the medical staff improve their rounds and attention to admitted patients.
